Welcome to my online home
I’ve had a number of roles in my life. I started as a chemical engineer, transitioned into operations management, then left industry to develop a career as a technical writer. In all of these roles. one of my main objectives remains the same: effective communication of technical concepts to the intended audience. I bring substantial understanding of chemical processes and technical equipment (from lab-scale instrumentation to full-scale production) and 20 years of technical writing experience, along with the confidence that I can solve any problem given the right tools. I’m looking for exciting remote work that lets me use my entire background.
INDUSTRY CAREER
Most of my professional time was spent in industry. I was hired as a research chemical engineer back in 2005, and moved through a number of roles in my 13+ year career.
WRITING CAREER
In 2018 I left industry to focus on the technical writing aspect of my previous career, which had always been one of the most enjoyable parts of that work.
MORE THINGS I DO
My professional career focus is elsewhere, but I also have a number of skills, interests, and experiences that fall outside those two categories.
who is Jessica?
Jessica currently lives in Akron, Ohio, USA (and is not looking to relocate at this time). She grew up in the eastern United States, and currently lives with her spouse, adopted brother, and an assorted number of dogs and cats (that outnumbers the humans).
Jessica spends most of her days writing. She can type over 50 words per minute (wpm), and has delivered over 2500 words of professional writing within 24 hours. When on a roll, she can put out 5000 words on a good day. She’s well-versed in SEO, linking and anchor text, and keywords, and has written a number of blog articles on content marketing. When she doesn’t have client work, she continues to write on a number of personal fiction and non-fiction projects.
Jessica has been intrigued by math and science since her childhood. Chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, differential equations, and materials science were her favorite classes in college. She enjoys solving problems, breaking down barriers, improving processes, and explaining complicated material to its target audience in a way that sticks. She’s also very fond of Excel, and loves nothing more than digging into a spreadsheet and pulling out viable information.
When she isn’t writing, she’s usually outdoors in a park, researching her latest Wikipedia hole, or taking care of her nieces. She enjoys art, photography, cooking, and gardening. Jessica remains an advocate and supporter of women’s rights, queer rights, and disability accommodation, especially in the workplace.
